Perinatologist

We went to see the perinatologist yesterday. They got us in a week early due to some cancellations because of the snow...:)

We had another in depth ultrasound. Only one of the kidneys is considered enlarged now. At 19 weeks they were 7 and 8mm, at 27 weeks they were 8 and 19mm and at 31 weeks they are 8 and 24mm. The dr said there are several things it could be: it could be nothing at all that corrects itself the first time the baby pees after he is born, it could be a blockage or a stricture, reflux or it could be linked to Down syndrome. He does not think it is related to Down syndrome since there are no other markers.

We are suppose to be getting a consult with a Pediatric Urologist at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

The perinatologist wants me to start having non stress tests twice a week and have a scheduled csection at 37 weeks. That's in 38 days! Whoa! It seems so real now.:)

I also have another appointment to see the perinatologist for another ultrasound towards the end of this month. He wants to see how to kidney is doing and make sure that it is not dieing. He will be looking at the blood flow to the kidney, for cysts and any other signs that might suggest that the baby may need to be born earlier due to this kidney.

The good news is, you can live your entire life with only one kidney!  We are still hopeful and trusting for God to heal our baby.

Here's a picture of our "big" baby boy! I was 31 weeks 4days yesterday when this ultrasound was done and he is measuring closer to 36 weeks for his head and 34 weeks for his bones.
